Sound Impulse is owned and run by DJ Amit Punjabi, who has been playing Mumbai’s premium clubs since the late 1990s. The sound company grew out of the DJ career — he knows what a room needs because he has had to play in it.
Around 200 nights a year.
Amit still plays — around 200 events a year, for clients in Mumbai and around the world. His sets run from bass-heavy remixes of club, hip-hop and R&B, through classic rock and retro, to Bollywood dance, deep house, tech house and funky house, and the blends in between.
What clients book him for does not show up in a genre list: reading the crowd, and knowing when to change course before the floor empties. Twenty-five years of doing that is what made his name in the industry.
His own sound company.
Sound Impulse is the sound company Amit set up so his clients get the same quality of sound at their private and corporate events — whether he is the one playing or not. The same person who reads a dance floor specifies the system that fills it.
Gear, not adjectives.
Every rental company says it uses good equipment, so here is the list instead: RCF line arrays and subwoofers, JBL and Mackie speakers, Pioneer CDJ-2000NXS2 decks with a DJM-900NXS2 mixer, Allen & Heath Qu-32 consoles and Shure wireless microphones — plus lighting, trussing and backline. Where we work.
Based in Mumbai, working across India, and Amit plays internationally. Outstation jobs so far include Pune, Alibaug, Lonavala, Karjat, Daman, Surat, Ahmedabad and Goa — and the right event is worth a longer drive.
